Oak Park Community to Give Back

The Community Outreach Committee is looking for volunteers for a special day of service in conjunction with 'Big Sunday.'

The Oak Park Unified School District wants to reach out to all of Oak Park and give back to a community that so generously supports the school district. We recently formed a group called the Community Outreach Committee made up of several parents, a community member, an OPUSD school board member, and the OPUSD Superintendent. We are organizing a Day of Service for the community of Oak Park, which will take place in conjunction with “Big Sunday” on Sunday May 6, 2012. We are hoping for this to be an annual event that will bring everyone together to support our community as a whole.

We are planning projects throughout Oak Park, coordinated at each of the school sites, including helping families in need throughout the Oak Park area. Each school will enlist volunteers, and we are also reaching out to local organizations and individuals to help complete the projects. All volunteers will then be invited to a community celebration at the High School immediately following completion of their service project.

We are hoping you and/or your business would like to be a part of this community effort.

There are several ways that you can become involved:
1.   Donate services to help complete projects;
2.   Donate food/drink to be given to the volunteers once the projects are completed;
3.   Donate supplies to be used to complete projects, i.e., rubber gloves, cleaning supplies, etc.;
4.   Participate in the entertainment at the event, i.e., disc jockey, band, musical group, special demonstration of skills; or
5.   Donate to help cover costs for the event.

This event is focused on bringing the community together through service and then thanking all involved for their help. Your participation will be a way to thank those in the neighborhood for supporting your establishment and introducing yourself to those neighbors who may not have met you yet.

You will receive the following for your participation:

 1.  Your business listed on the OPUSD Community Outreach Web page;
 2.  A personal Thank You from the Superintendent and the committee on monthly District e-communications to all Oak Park School District families (over 4,000);
 3.  Your name on a Thank You banner on site at the event;
 4.  Your name (or company) mentioned during the entertainment portion of the event;

You can become involved by visiting our website at www.oakparkusd.org/communityoutreach<http://www.oakparkusd.org/communityoutreach>  The committee will then contact you to arrange all the details. Thank you in advance for helping to bring our schools, our community and our businesses, together for one cause “Keeping
