Agoura's Daisies Become Official Girl Scouts

Daisy Troop 1676 participated in their investiture ceremony Friday night.

Amidst a group of attentive relatives, Agoura's Daisy Troop 1676 participated in their investiture ceremony Friday night as part of their official entrance into the Girl Scout organization. The event, which included a recitation of the Girl Scout laws by individual girls, took place at De Anza Park in Calabasas.

"This is an important occasion, because it gives the girls ownership for their troupe," said co-leader Shaya Baird. "We hope to instill in them a sense of leadership, a sense of community as well as build character."

During the ceremony, each girl received a certificate and pin.

To mark the organizations 100th year, Baird said that the number 100 will take on significance during the year's activities, which includes the planting of 100 flowers and collecting 100 cans for the needy.

Parent Cheryl Chase said she was very proud or her daughter Sydney's participation in the group. "She gets to express herself as a Girl Scout as well as recognize her own independence and sense of responsibility."

After the ceremony, everyone was treated to dinner provided by parent volunteers.

"I'm so excited, because I get to be a real Girl Scout," said Ashleigh Baird, 6, with a big smile.

The Daisie is the first level available to girls in scouting and serves children in grades K-1.
