Reyes Adobe Days 2012 to Highlight '30 Years of the Good Life'

At a press conference held Tuesday morning, Mayor John Edelston announced plans for the 8th annual Reyes Adobe Days being held October 5-7.

 

In honor of the , this year’s Reyes Adobe Days will be themed “30 Years of the Good Life,” Mayor John Edelston said at a press preview of the event on Tuesday.

“Eight years ago, at the first Reyes Adobe Days, one of my daughters was 21, one was 23, now they’re a lot older. It’s remarkable to think how far this has come,” Edelston said.

Local up-and-coming actress and singer will serve as the 2012 grand marshal for the Reyes Adobe Days Parade, a highlight of the festival, which will feature floats, equestrians, cars, bands, drill teams, clubs and organizations, Saturday morning.

Kiyoko, an Agoura High School graduate, who will be releasing her first solo album next year, is best known for playing Stella Yamada on the Disney Channel movie Lemonade Mouth and starring as Velma Dinkley in the Cartoon Network movies Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins and Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster.

Kiyoko said that being picked as the grand marshal was a complete surprise, but an honor.

“I’m really excited to be a part of it, to bring the community together and see old faces and new faces,” Kiyoko said. “I grew up in the first neighborhood and had such a great childhood here. It’s such a family community, everyone knows everyone and everyone’s so supportive.”  

The festival, which will run Oct. 5, 6 and 7, will kick off with a Senior Fiesta at the Adobe followed by Night at the Adobe, featuring “Art at the Adobe” gallery and museum store.

New to Reyes Adobe Days this year is the RAD Agoura 10 miler, which will join the RAD 10K race on Saturday morning. Following the races at 11:30 a.m. there will be a special celebration for the city’s 30th anniversary with cupcakes at the

Also new this year will be ghost tours of the museum led by Ventura-based ghost hunter Saturday night. In addition, Ladyface Ale Company will host a beer garden. A portion of the profits from the feature brew, , will go to the Reyes Adobe Historical society.

Jodi Regan, the Reyes Adobe Volunteer coordinator, said that volunteer opportunities are  for students and adults interested in helping out with the Reyes Adobe Days events including: a Senior Fiesta, Night at the Adobe, the art gallery, parade, Day at the Adobe, run and gymkhana.

Randi Pahler, the event's committee chair, told the gathering that she is thrilled for the festival to start.

"I'm so excited, it should have a different look this year and it will just be a great time for everyone," she said.
