The Great Race Of Agoura Hills Distributes More Than $90,000 To Local Schools

Since its inception in 1986, the Great Race has donated more than $1.6 million to local schools.

The Dole Great Race of Agoura Hills has announced that more than $90,000 in donations from the 2013 event were distributed to nine schools in Agoura Hills and Oak Park this week.

“Over the years the Great Race has played an integral role in Brookside PTA’s fundraising efforts," Julie Prince, Brookside Elementary PTA resident, said in a press release. "The funds donated by the Great Race have been used to support Brookside’s music, art, computer, library and physical education programs. We are so grateful for their generosity.” 

With this year’s disbursements, the Great Race has donated more than $1.6 million to area schools since its inception in 1986, including $500,000 over the last five years.

Additionally, the Great Race brings $1.13M annually to the greater Conejo Valley in tourism.

“This event continues to be a huge draw for runners all over California and throughout the nation," Danny Greenberg, Great Race event producer, said in a press release. "The Great Race gives us a chance to showcase our area’s natural beauty to thousands of visitors, all while improving our community and helping to ensure our children are given the best educational and fitness opportunities.”

The Great Race is a six-race event, comprised of the Chesebro Half Marathon, Pacific Half Marathon, Old Agoura 10K, Deena Kastor 5K, Kids Mile and the Family Fun Run. This year’s Great Race took place on Saturday, March 23. 

The 2014 Great Race is scheduled for Saturday, March 22, 2014, with the Great Race Sports & Fitness Expo to be held March 20-21. Registration opens in September.
