Summer Edition: Parks & Rec's Sony Delight Proves to Be a Contender

Sony Delight once again comes from behind late in the game to notch a huge regular season win.

With summer almost here, and high school sports shut down for the season, Sports Notebook will be featuring the games and competitions held at the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center. These adult-played sports are  sponsored by the Agoura Hills Parks & Recreation Center. We call it our Summer Edition.

BASKETBALL

Thursday "C" League

  • "A-Town" entered Thursday evening's game looking for a much needed win against a strong "Sharp Shooters" team. The game was very close, but in the end, the "Sharp Shooters" got the edge and the win. John Paul Abraham (Sharp Shooters) led his team with 25 points, 13 rebounds and four assists in route to a 60-53 victory. Mike Robbins (A-Town) and Matt Baldwin (A-Town) once again led their team in a losing effort. "A-Town" still looks for its first win while the "Sharp Shooters" remain one game out of first with a 4-1 record.
  • The "Hammers" remained undefeated after Thursday's matchup against "Hustle Hard." Ron Lee (Hammers) and Jason Adams (Hammers) combined for 33 points and 10 rebounds in route to a 66-49 victory. In a losing effort, Mike Hoffmann (Hustle Hard) and Ilias Chricto (Hustle Hard) combined for 21 points, nine rebounds and nine assists. The "Hammers" remain undefeated with a 5-0 record while "Hustle Hard" slides to 1-4 overall.  

Thursday "D" League

  • "Smooth" battled against a tough "Our 6th Man" squad early Thursday evening. "Our 6th Man" pulled away early with all around superior play and a constant fast tempo in route to a 66-48 victory. Mike Casper (Our 6th Man) and Brad Kahan (Our 6th Man) combined for 37 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. Mike Rudberg (Smooth) led his team with 26 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in a losing effort. "Smooth" now slides to 1-4 while "Our 6th Man" continues to climb the rankings with a 3-2 record.
  • "Xavier" entered Thursday's game looking to continue its winning streak against a seasoned "Blazers" team. Unfortunately, due to an insufficient amount of players, the "Blazers" had to forfeit. "Xavier" now has a 3-2 record while the "Blazers" remain in last place with an 0-5 record.
  • "Rock Sugar" entered Thursday's game looking for a much needed win against a very tough "The Dudes" squad. The game was very close throughout, but in the end, "The Dudes" proved to be the better team. Sergei Lepeshinki (The Dudes) could not be stopped, posting 32 points, 13 rebounds and four assists in route to a 65-58 victory. In a losing effort, Tom Becht (Rock Sugar) and Jabbar Alleyne (Rock Sugar) combined for 28 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists. "Rock Sugar" slides to a 3-2 record while "The Dudes" move into first place with a 5-1 record.
  • "Sony Delight" looked to continue its winning streak against first place "Old Time Magic." Throughout most of the game, "Old Time Magic" controlled the boards and the pace, extending to a seven point lead with three minutes left in regulation. "Sony Delight" could not be denied and once again posted a huge upset victory. Brad Helgesen (The Dudes) and Joe Devita (The Dudes) combined for 40 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists in route to a 57-52 victory. The "Old Time Magic" and "Sony Delight" are now tied for second place with a 3-2 record.  

Sunday "C" League

  • The "McFly's" entered Sunday's game looking for a much needed win against a strong "Sharpshooters" squad. Daniel Shemesh (McFly's) and Paul Siamehs (McFly's) combined for 28 points, 20 rebounds and six assists in route to a 57-46 victory. Chris Malden (Sharpshooters) and Steve Wilde's (Sharpshooters) performance wasn't enough to capture the win. The "Sharpshooters" slide to 1-4 while the "McFly's" move out of last place with a 2-3 record.
  • "CB" looked to remain atop the standings after playing the "Kestrels" on Sunday evening. From the tip-off, "CB" proved to be too much for the"Kestrels" posting a 73-42 victory. Gordon Scott (CB) and Mike Pillar (CB) led their team with 38 points, 10 assists and 18 rebounds. "CB" remains in first place with an overall record of 4-1 while the "Kestrels" are stuck in last with a record of 1-4. 
  • "Old School" entered Sunday's game looking to defeat a very strong "iBallers" squad. The game was very close throughout including four different lead changes in the last two minutes. "Old School" eventually prevailed with strong play by Dave McIntyre, who posted 23 points and 14 rebounds. Tyson Dexter (iBallers) and Zack Hite's (iBallers) performances were not enough in route to their teams first loss, 74-69. "Old School" moves up the rankings with a current record of 3-2 while the "iBallers" suffer its first loss and have a record of 4-1.

Sunday "D" League

  • "Rimshot" entered Sunday evening's game confident and handed the "Longshots" its first loss of the season. With strong play by Sean Collins and James Vargo, "Rimshot" was able to capture its first victory against one of the best teams in the league. In a 66-86 losing effort, Blake Hoffmann (Longshots) and Tae Lee (Longshots) combined for 33 points and 14 rebounds. The "Longshots" suffer its first defeat with a record of 4-1 while "Rimshot" acquires its first win and now moves to 1-4 overall.
  • The "Warriors" and the "Ballers" both entered Sunday evening's matchup looking to remain undefeated. From the very beginning, the "Warriors" controlled the pace and the game, notching a dominant 74-53 victory. Jason Townsley (Warriors) once again led his team with 20 points, 15 assists and three rebounds. Brian Cantwell (Ballers) and Gordy Scott (Ballers) combined for 34 points and 18 rebounds in a losing effort. The "Warriors" stay a perfect 5-0 while the "Ballers" drop to second place with a 4-1 record.
  • "The Eskimo Brothers" and "Off Constantly" battled in a close matchup late Sunday night. "Off Constantly" and "The Eskimo Brothers" remained close from tipoff due to both team's all around superior play. With one minute remaining, "The Eskimo Brothers" were able to pull away capture a 56-51 victory. Both teams rank in the middle of the standings with a 2-3 record.
