Robert Coutts confronts the heat and guides us along Agoura's famed trail.

I've always been reluctant to hike local trails in summer, because of the temperature and the snakes. I figured this time, the weather had started to cool off and I wouldn't have to worry. Unfortunately, summer returned with a vengeance right in the middle of my hike through Cheeseboro Canyon. It did have its rewards in the shade though.

The wonderful old ranch buildings at the end of the side trail to the right at the beginning, the beautiful old Cheeseboro Oaks lining my way, and one very friendly bunny to keep me company along the trail helped me forget about the heat. A few holdout flowers volunteered their time as well.

This 5-mile hike in nearby Cheeseboro Canyon is reached by heading up Chesebro Road in Old Agoura to the National Park Service sign. It is the lead-off for several longer hikes to Ahmanson and Palo Comado Canyon.
