Dodger Star Offers Local Kids an Opportunity to Learn From the Pros

Dodger first baseman Adrian Gonzalez held his first kid's training camp Monday at Agoura High School.

The 240 registered kids, ranging in age from 6 to 14, came from across the Southland but were mainly concentrated from the Conejo Valley, according to camp organizers.

"We have kids coming in on scholarships from the Boys and Girls Clubs as well as some military families, so there are a lot of cool aspects to this," said Adam Smith, event coordinator.

This is Gonzalez' second year hosting a camp but his first year in Los Angeles.

"It's just fun to be out here with the kids, have them ask questions and take pictures," Gonzalez said.

From 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the kids had the opportunity to practice a variety of drills with 30 of the area's top prep baseball coaches.

Eddie Espinoza from Thousand Oaks said he brought his son eight-year-old son, Adrian, to the camp because he relates to the ballplayer.

"Well, his name is Adrian, he loves baseball, and he just loves to watch Adrian play," he said.
