Chargers Secure League Championships

A recap of Agoura High School sports from Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Thursday was the final regular games for Chargers basketball and soccer programs. The Frosh/Soph and JV teams ending strong, some securing league championships. The Varsity teams are looking forward to Marmonte league playoffs and some Junior Varsity players will be brought up. 

Great season for those athletes that are finished! Here's a look at Thursday's scores for the Chargers.

Boy's Soccer

  • Frosh/Soph: The guys ended their season with a 2-0 win over Calabasas. Goals by David Cueto and Jonathan Cohen sealed the deal. Their overall record was 7-8-3, and in league was 6-6-2. 
  • Junior Varsity: Another win for the Charger soccer program, 1-0 versus Calabasas. Tyler Parrish scored the goal bringing their final league record to 8-3-3. They ended their season 11-7-4 overall. 
  • Varsity: With a close match, the guys tied their final regular season game against Calabasas 0-0 making their record 8-2-4 in league and 11-7-6 overall. They head into playoffs as tied league champions with Thousand Oaks. 

Girl's Soccer:

  • Frosh/Soph: A close game brought a victory of 2-1 for the girl's Chargers versus Calabasas. 
  • Junior Varsity: They ended their season with a strong 3-0 win against Calabasas at home. Emily Lenzo, Kelsey Garrison, and Olivia Miller scored the goals for the Chargers. 
  • Varsity: They tied 0-0 against Calabasas, but secured a spot in the Marmonte playoffs. Their no scoring game cost them the championship to Westlake by one point, but the lady Chargers played hard. Coach Michael Skene is proud the girls gave 100 percent and showed potential with plenty of shot opportunities. They are looking forward to the next phase of the their season. 

Boy's Basketball:

  • Frosh/Soph: The guys ended their seasons by beating Calabasas 63-50, with their overal record 7-17, and 4-10 finishing seventh in league.  Jack Barmasse 19 points and 3 steals. Daniel Cipriano has 14 points and Aidan Kastenberg scored 8 points.
  • Junior Varisty: In an overtime matchup, the Chargers lost by 3, 74-71, to Calabasas. Their league record ended even at 7-7, with the overall record at 15-13. Sam Zartoshty had 24 points, Jake Sherman had 18 points, and Michael Soffer has 12 points.
  • Varsity: The guys suffered a tough loss to Calabasas with 72-59 as the final score. They ended league play with a record of 4-10 and 11-15 overall.

Girl's Basketball:

  • Frosh/Soph: Congrats to the girls for being league champs! They ended their season with a big win over Calabasas, 63-10. Freshman Alix Davies had 10 points, along with fellow freshman Gigi Olelewe and Haley Pena each scoring 10. Sophomore Natalie Bradley had 11 points.  They finished their season 19-3 overall, and 13-1 in league. 
  • Junior Varsity: The girl's basketball JV team won. Patch was unable to retrieve the score. 
  • Varsity: The Chargers beat Calabasas 68-35. Camille Mahlknecht had 23 points, 11 rebounds, seven blocks and six assists for the host Chargers, who secured a share of back-to-back Marmonte League championships by defeating Calabasas. Kim Jacobs added 13 points. They are 19-7 overall and end regular season league play at 12-2.

Girl's Water Polo:

  • Frosh/Soph: Patch was unable to retrieve the score. 
  • Junior Varsity: Girl's JV Water Polo beat Moorpark 11-1.
  • Varsity: The team won 17-4. The girl’s team went undedeated in league, 12-0, making them the champions. Their overall record is 21-7. Their first playoff game for Marmonte League is next Thursday at home.
