Agoura Adventures: Peter Strauss Ranch Trail

This short and scenic hike includes a moderately elevated but shady hill.

Peter Strauss Ranch: Once referred to as Lake Enchanto, the land that is now Peter Strauss Ranch served as a resort and popular amusement park in the 1930s and 1940s. During the 1960s, the lake itself disappeared when the dam backing up Triunfo Creek washed away in a flood. The park property was sold for back taxes, and finally ended up in the hands of actor-producer Peter Strauss in 1977. After Strauss restored and improved the property, he sold it to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, who deeded it to the National Park Service.

Location: Go south on Kanan for three miles from the 101. Turn left onto Troutdale Drive.  After one-third of a mile, Troutdale ends at Mulholand Highway.  You will see Peter Strauss Ranch straight ahead, but turn left and after a few hundred feet, turn right into a large parking lot.

Featured trail: The Peter Strauss Trail is 0.6 miles and loops back to the parking lot.
