Willow Collecting for Those in Need

A weeklong Manna food drive is in full swing. Donors can drop off nonperishable items at the school in the morning.

is hosting a weeklong food drive for Manna, a charitable organization that distributes food and essential staples for families in need. Volunteers will be in front of the school from 8 to 8:20 a.m. to collect drop-off donations.

This is the first Manna food drive for the school in three years, according to Lauren Smith, who is on Willow's We Care committee. "The stockpile of food usually gets low this time of year when school lets out, so they need as many donations as they can get," she said.

Nonperishable items including canned goods, disposable diapers, pet food, toiletries and dried foods (pasta, beans, rice) are requested.

Mike Mathews, Manna's executive director, said he is grateful for Willow's efforts. "Willow Elementary and the families who contribute have been great supporters of Manna, and they are a great bunch of people to work with. We thank them again for all of their support and helping those in the community who are less fortunate," he said.
