New Boys & Girls Club Comes to Agoura Hills

The new club will be held at Lindero Canyon Middle School.

Middle school students in Agoura Hills and Westlake Village can enroll in a new Boys & Girls Club for the 2012-13 school year, according to a report in the Ventura County Star.

The club, opening at , will serve students in sixth to eighth grades in the Las Virgenes Unified School District, said the Star.

Leslie Lemus, the club coordinator at the Sequoia Boys & Girls Club in Newbury Park, will be the director of the Lindero Canyon Boys & Girls Club, scheduled to open Aug. 1, according to the report.

"It's a dream come true," Lemus, 24, told the Star. "I love serving kids and helping the community."

Initially, the Lindero Canyon club will operate out of a classroom at the school and have access to the gymnasium and playfields, Lemus told the newspaper.

She anticipates having an enrollment of about 60 students and said that the club will offer programs during the lunch hour and after school, according to the Star.

"I think it's really going to fill a need here," Principal Abbe Irshay told the Star. "We have increasing numbers of parents, both moms and dads, who are working, and there is a need for after-school care."

Irshay said the campus has space for the club to bring in a portable building once the group is established, said the report.
