Munch Madness to Bring Food, Fun and Funds to Agoura High

The fundraiser will feature live music, a celebrity appearance and plenty of gourmet cuisine on campus Sunday.

Agoura Munch Madness is back and, once again, promises the ultimate in four-wheeling gourmet fare plus concerts, contests and more. The event will take over Agoura High’s campus from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

And best of all, it’s for a good cause–Agoura High’s International Baccalaureate program, which incorporates cultural understanding to promote critical thinking.

Budget cuts to schools and the desire for such programs is what led parents, faculty and students to come up with the fundraiser.

“The IB program is about engaging students with a worldly perspective to help instill a lifelong passion for learning,” said Larry Misel, rincipal of Agoura High School, in a statement. “Proceeds from this event will help ensure that the program will remain a viable option for years to come.”

Those attending will have a chance to support the IB program as they taste eclectic fare from an array of L.A.’s most popular gourmet vendors such as India Jones, Sky Gourmet Tacos and Me So Hungry, all while enjoying live entertainment.

Several jazz groups and rock bands will grace the stage throughout the day.

Topping off the flavors and sounds is an appearance by actor Kenton Duty of the Disney Channel’s hit show Shake it Up, who will be on hand to greet fans and sign autographs from 4:30-6 p.m.

In addition to other planned festivities, such as face painting, a Munch & Crunch Contest and a chance to win prizes, an E-Vehicle test drive car will also be available to entertain and educate the crowd.

Tickets are $5 online before the event and $7 at the gate; children 4 and under are free. All proceeds will go toward the benefiting the highly acclaimed IB program.

Thanks for your great perspective on this issue. We should all unplug once in awhile.

I think for the most part, people are mentally drained. Few take the time to sit back relaxRead More anymore. Even when we do have a minute to ourselves, we're constantly bombarded with emails, text messages and status updates. If we unplugged ourselves from our devices, we might find the serenity we all so desperately need. Turn your phone off, take a hike. Find a big tree next to a creek and sit under the shade. Enjoy nature. Listen to the sound of the water, the birds and the breeze as it moves through the brush. When you get back to nature, if only for a short time, you'll leave with a clear mind and feel revitalized. You're right---technology was supposed to make our lives more simple. Instead, it fuels the attention deficit disorder as our brain becomes a hashtag with a constant barrage of (often useless) news and updates. Although I'm young, I'd give anything to go back to the days where calling someone often led to a wild goose chase of finding an available payphone and spare change to make the call.

If you can't talk politics with friends without being able to agree to disagree or even end upRead More losing them as friends then they were not the "friends" you thought they were anyway.

It's not about moving forward, it's about saving your breath! That's the whole problem; too muchRead More talk and not enough action! You gonna eat that fish or just hold it up in the air?

then again, if you only speak with people who agree with you, how do you ever move forward? aren'tRead More you just "spinning your wheels" staying in the same spot never moving forward?
