Community Forum on Drone Warfare

Peace activist Medea Benjamin will discuss the implications of the growing U.S. reliance on drones to combat terrorism during a Community Forum on Friday, June 15, at the Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Newbury Park.

Benjamin will talk about her book, “Drone Warfare: Killing by Remote Control” at the 7:30 p.m. forum. A discussion will follow her remarks, and she will sign copies of the book afterward. “Drone Warfare” reports where drones are being used, who is piloting the unmanned, armed planes, who are the targets, and what are the legal and moral implications.

In her book, Benjamin asserts that drone warfare has caused the deaths of hundreds of innocent civilians in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia and Yemen, and increased the danger to U.S. national security.

Benjamin reports on the proliferation of drones and warns that they could ultimately be used by rogue nations or terrorist groups against Americans at home. Her book is a call to action, with a look at what activists, lawyers and scientists are doing to oppose drones, and ways  to move forward.

The forum is co-sponsored by the American Civil Liberties Union, Ventura County Chapter, and by Global Exchange Ventura County Supporters.
