Agoura High Recognizes Standout Seniors

Nearly 300 graduating students were acknowledged at Wednesday's awards ceremony.

Agoura High School honored 267 graduating students at the Senior Awards ceremony Wednesday night.

"It's just a time to honor the seniors that have accomplished a lot during their time at Agoura High School," said Valerie Goren, one of three senior officers who planned the event.

The ceremony was held in the gym on campus. Six hundred guests--family members and students--were seated at round tables throughout the facility and fed food from Rosie's BBQ and Grillery.

"We changed the format last year to make it a dinner, because we thought it would be nice to have the families support their students," said Assistant Principal Sherry Bronow. "There are almost 500 students graduating. Ninety-eight percent of them will go to college in the fall."

Community presenters numbered 21 and spanned the Las Virgenes Educators Association, the Westminster Free Clinic, U.S. Marine Corps and the National Charity League.

"This is a first. This is big," said Bronow.

Other notable attendees were Las Virgenes Unified School District Supt. Dr. Donald Zimring, who presented the Schuyler C. Joyner Scholarship to Sara McGillewie, and Les and Debbie Feldman, who presented the Elisa Feldman Memorial Scholarship in memory of their daughter to 10 outstanding students.

Agoura High School's 18 valedictorians and nine salutatorians received plaques recognizing their efforts, and the 2010 National Merit Scholarships were announced.
