Agoura High to Host 'College Knowledge Night'

Informational evening for college-bound students and their parents to be held Thursday.

has the honors this year of hosting “College Knowledge Night of Workshops,” to be held on Thursday. The annual event for college-bound students rotates amongst the participating high schools each year and is sponsored by the Parent Faculty Clubs of Agoura, Calabasas and Oak Park high schools. More than 500 students and parents are expected to attend.

“We are very happy to be hosting College Knowledge Night at Agoura High School this year, “ said PFC Co-President Angela Cutbill. “It is a fantastic event for parents and students to learn how to approach the college application process. It gives them a chance to learn what type of school is the right fit for them and how to decide which tests to take. We try to demystify the whole process for both parents and students.”

The free program will offer nearly 20 different college-related topics during three different sets of workshops held from 6:30 to 8:50 p.m. Several SAT/ACT tutoring company vendors will also be available beginning at 5:30 p.m. at tables outside Agoura High’s ‘G’ Building to explain their ACT and SAT test preparation tutoring services. Companies that will be on-hand include A+ Learning, Catalyst Prep, Chyten Education, Elite of Northridge, Eureka Review, Huntington Learning Center, Kaplan Test Prep, Lindero Learning Center and Revolution Prep.

The evening will feature a number of topics ranging from information about the University of California system, the California State University system, private California colleges and California community colleges as well as U.S. military academies.

There will also be workshops available for students who wish to attend an out-of-state college or an institution offering visual and performing arts majors. Other subjects covered will include information for college-bound athletes, how to choose a college and the cost of college.

“This is an excellent opportunity for everyone attending to learn all about the college process; how to research the best college fit for you. There are workshops for every student’s needs,” said Jean Gilbert Hawkins, the college & career adviser at Oak Park High School.

Each workshop will last 30 minutes. Interested parents and/or students may send email inquiries to collegeknowledgenight@gmail.com.
