Agoura Soccer Charges Past Calabasas

The Agoura varsity boys soccer team overwhelms the Coyotes of Calabasas in league play.

Boys Soccer

  • The Agoura varsity boys soccer team travelled to Westlake Wednesday to battle the Warriors in league play. Both defenses came to play early, shutting each other out in the first half. In the beginning of the second half, Agoura and Westlake continued to stall the offense until Jamie Alvarado of Agoura found his teammate on a cross. David Gallop didn't waste the opportunity and placed the ball in the back of the net. The Warriors later countered and scored one of its own late in the second. Agoura goalie Peyton Parrish had four saves on the day. The game ended in a 1-1 tie.
  • On Friday, the Chargers hosted the Coyotes of Calabasas looking for a much needed league victory. From kickoff, the Chargers overwhelmed the Coyotes, controlling the middle of the field and testing the opposing goalie early. The Chargers scored two goals in the first and added another in the second half. The Chargers ultimately cruised to a 3-0 victory. Alex Simon, Doug Wong and Jamie Alvarado each scored once, and Matt Solomon and Charlie Villa-Lovos combined for three assists. Peyton Parrish recorded a shutout with four saves. The Chargers are now 1-0-3 in league and 3-6-4 overall. They next host the Pioneers of Simi Valley on Monday. 

Girls Soccer

  • The Agoura varsity girls soccer squad hosted the Warriors of Westlake Wednesday in a rivalry match-up. The game was very close in the first half with both defenses unwilling to relinquish any clean shots on the goal. Kelsey McLaughlin, Rachel DeLuca and Kinsey McLaughlin had exceptional defensive performances with Julie Watson and Taylor C'debaca contributing in the middle. In the second half, the Warriors grabbed the lead 1-0 and finished the game strong. The Charger goalie, Kelcie Brodsky, finished with 12 saves in the loss.
  • On Friday, the Chargers travelled to Calabasas to battle the Coyotes. In the first half, the Chargers grabbed the lead off a Brooke Held score. Agoura held the lead until late in the second half when Calabasas scored the equalizer. The game ended in a 1-1 tie. Rachel DeLuca once again had a strong defensive performance and goalie Kelcie Brodsky recorded another 11 saves. The Chargers next travel to Simi Valley to play the Pioneers on Monday.

  • The Agoura varsity boys basketball squad travelled to Westlake to challenge the Warriors in league play. The Warriors outplayed the Chargers from the tipoff, outscoring them 24-10 in the first quarter. By the end of the first half, Agoura was dominated on the boards, and it's offense was slowed down by Westake's stellar defense. The Chargers trailed at halftime 43-22 and never caught up, losing 73-67. Michael Stoffer led the Chargers with 20 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Max Meredith and Shiva Trieu combined for 22 points, and Eric Budginas grabbed 12 rebounds.
  • On Friday, the Chargers hosted the Coyotes of Calabasas. The Coyotes held the Chargers to a dismal 41 points on the game and grabbed the easy win 69-41. Michael Stoffer led the Chargers with 14 points, and Max Meredith added nine points and three steals in the losing effort. The Chargers slide to 9-8 overall and 1-3 in league play. They next host the Pioneers of Simi Valley on Monday, looking to end their skid.

Girls Basketball

  • The Agoura varsity girls basketball squad hosted the Warriors of Westlake on Wednesday looking for a victory in league play. The Chargers were too much for the Warriors and captured a 64-52 victory. Kylie Cunningham led Agoura with 19 points and added five rebounds, six steals, and six assists. Noam Leead and Shaunna Borenstein also combined for 20 points, four rebounds, six steals and six assists.
  • On Friday, the Chargers travelled to Calabasas to battle the Coyotes and continue their winning streak. The Chargers overwhelmed the Coyotes early and continued the dominating performance throughout towards the 79-35 victory. Kylie Cunningham had her best game of the season, posting a "triple-double" consisting of 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Shaunna Borenstein, Kim Jacobs and Noam Leead combined for 40 points and 17 rebounds. The Chargers are now 8-8 overall and 3-1 in league play. They next travel to Simi Valley to battle the Pioneers on Monday. 

Girls Water Polo

  • The Agoura varsity girls water polo squad travelled to Thousand Oaks on Tuesday to battle the Lancers. The Chargers held the Lancers scoreless in a 17-0 rout.
  • On Wednesday, the lady Chargers hosted the Musketeers of Moorpark and continued their winning ways. They easily handled the Musketeers 16-0 and remained undefeated in league play. The Chargers are the heavy favorites to capture the Marmonte League title and compete for the Southern Section CIF Championship. Agoura is 4-0 in league play and 8-1 overall. They next host the Warriors of Westlake in league play.
