3 LVUSD Schools Honored as California Distinguished Schools

Alice C. Stelle Middle School, Arthur E. Wright Middle School and Calabasas High School are among 39 in Los Angeles County.

Three Las Virgenes Unified schools are among 39 in Los Angeles County named as California Distinguished Schools Thursday.   

They are Alice C. Stelle Middle School, Arthur E. Wright Middle School and  Calabasas High School.

"These schools have gone the extra mile to provide high-quality instruction that puts their students on the right path toward career and college," Tom Torlakson, state superintendent of public instruction, said. "Given the enormous challenges schools have faced in recent years, it is inspiring to see this kind of success in so many schools."

Selection is based on grades and closing performance gaps among demographic groups.

"We are thrilled," Dan Stepenosky, LVUSD superintendent, wrote in an email. "The staffs at all three schools worked very hard on the application. It's a tremendous reflection on their hard work, the wonderful programs we have developed, and the innovation we have embraced."

The state recognizes elementary schools in alternate years.
