Blog Post: PBS' British Summer Holiday Event 'Queen and Country' Begins With a New 4-Part Series

In commemorating Queen Elizabeth's 60 years on the throne, PBS brings viewers a history of the British monarchy.

With the Olympic games coming up shortly, it's time to get into the groove of everything British. PBS is doing just that with their new 4-part series Queen And Country premiering Sunday July 1 at 8 p.m. (check local listings) and continues on simultaneous Sunday evenings.

In 2012, all eyes are on Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s second longest-reigning monarch, as England marks Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee. Join veteran newsman Sir Trevor McDonald as he looks at the traditions and institutions surrounding the monarchy from Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace to the queen’s royal visits to some of the greatest historic royal palaces.

With rare archival footage, Queen & Country celebrates Queen Elizabeth II's 60 years on the throne through an exploration of the customs and traditions surrounding the British monarchy. Highlights of the archival footage include views of the Queen as a young princess in her teens, footage after the death of her father King George VI in 1952, and footage of the official June 1953 coronation ceremony.
