Honoring the Heroes of 9/11 and Remembering the Innocent Fallen

We remember the first responders, the innocent victims, and the values which make our country great!

I am writing this on September 11th, the 10th anniversary of 9/11. We pray that there be no more acts of terror and that the religions of the world teach their adherents that we are all children of the one God.  We pray that all faiths will recognize as Judaism does, that the righteous of all nations have a portion in the world to come, and that we are judged by our actions more than our beliefs.  May all humankind learn that we celebrate our differences and honor good people of all faiths.  We appreciate beyond words this great country of the United States of America, a symbol of liberty and justice for all.  We are thankful that our founding fathers included these biblical words on the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia: "Proclaim liberty throughout the land unto all the inhabitants thereof (Leviticus 25:10)."  We appreciate that our Jewish bible, one of the sacred texts which has taught and inspired billions of people on this planet, has as its central verse: "Love thy neighbor as thyself (Leviticus 19:18)."Thirty-six times we find in the Jewish bible, the Five Books of Moses, the verse which says "Be kind to the stranger, because you remember how you were mistreated when you were strangers in the Land of Egypt."  We must not teach that those of a different faith, a faith strange to us, that they are infidels.  We judge people based on their actions, on their conduct, on their words and deeds, and not on their beliefs.  The trauma of 9/11 has reminded us that "Freedom isn't Free" and to quote Thomas Jefferson that "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance."
