Water District Asking for Extra Conservation This Weekend

A press release from the Las Virgenes Municpal Water District:

During the period of Friday, May 9 through Monday, May 12, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California must perform work on the supply line that provides water to the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District service area. During those dates, LVMWD will not receive water from Metropolitan.  

In order to maintain adequate water supplies for necessary uses and any possible emergencies, LVMWD is requesting customers to reduce their water use during that time frame.  

Some additional conservation practices may include:

• Turn off automatic sprinkler systems 
• Do not drain or refill pools or spas
• Do not plant new sod or garden plants that require watering
• Refrain from home car washing 

During the shutdown period, LVMWD will rely on water drawn from Las Virgenes Reservoir and a limited supply from the L.A. Department of Water and Power.

As a result in the change of sources and different treatment methods, some customers may notice a difference in the taste of their water. This is a normal condition; the water supply will remain safe for consumption.

“It is important for every customer to conserve water during the shutdown period,” said David W. Pedersen, LVMWD’s General Manager. “With the public’s help, we will be able to meet normal indoor use demands and maintain a prudent reserve for any emergencies that may arise.”  

Normal water supply conditions are expected to resume on May 13; however it remains important to continue conserving water due to the prevailing drought.  

Las Virgenes Municipal Water District provides potable water service to the cities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Westlake Village and surrounding unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.
