Federal Shutdown Prompts City to Move 10K, 10-Miler Race to State Park
The shutdown forced the closure of Paramount Ranch, which is owned and operated by the National Park Service.
The Big Bad RAD -- a 10K and 10-miler race part of Reyes Adobe Day -- has been moved from Paramount Ranch to Malibu Creek State Park because of the federal government shutdown.
The shutdown forced the closure of Paramount Ranch, which is owned and operated by the National Park Service. The city decided to move the race from its original location.
"We really like the new course that we mapped out as it covers a good portion of the original courses and it's exceedingly beautiful," according to a statement from Endurance Events.
The city released the following information for racers:

WEATHER WARNING
The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning from 9 p.m. Thursday to 6 p.m. Sunday for Santa Ana winds and very low relative humidity. The strongest winds are predicted for Friday, with lesser winds on Saturday. A red flag warning means conditions support extreme fire danger.
The Sheriff's Department has informed us that if a fire starts in the area prior to the race, emergency personnel will have to be deployed to the fire area and the race would be canceled.
The California State Parks advised us that generally during a wind event, at Malibu Creek State Park the winds in the morning are usually lighter than later in the day. However, if the winds are deemed as too dangerous for outdoor park activity, State Parks has the option to close the parks at their discretion.
We want to be as transparent as possible and let you know about the weather warning and its possible effects. Safety is our number one priority. We are moving forward with all plans and the race will go on, unless of course we are notified by any government entity that conditions are not safe to run.
With that mind, and you don't feel comfortable running in these possible conditions, we are offering an immediate deferment program:
If you are registered for the 10 Miler, you can choose to defer your registration to the Great Race's Chesebro Half Marathon, Pacific Half Marathon or 10K, on March 22, 2014.GreatRaceofAgoura.com
If you are registered for the 10K, you can choose to defer your registration to the Great Race's 10K or 5K, on March 22, 2014.
You must declare you intention to defer by Friday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. A deferment means you are out of the Big Bad RAD and you cannot pick up your race bib, shirt or goodies or run the race.
If you pick up on Thursday or Friday, you are in the race and you cannot defer. You cannot defer on Saturday or after the race.
If the race is canceled for a weather conditions reason, we will issue our cancelation transfer policy at that time.
If you would like to defer now, simply send an email to: BigBadRADrun@gmail.com by Friday at 7:00 p.m. Include in the subject line: Deferment. In the body include your full name, distance you registered for (10 Miler or 10K) and your Great Race choice. Your Big Bad RAD registration will then be transferred to the Great Race.
