Some 83 employees at the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area are being furloughed, with only 12 remaining to perform essential services.

The tendrils of the federal government shutdown are being felt even in the scenic Santa Monica Mountains.

The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, which includes Cheeseboro Canyon, Paramount Ranch, Zuma/Trancas Canyons, Solstice Canyon, Rancho Sierra Vista and the Circle X Ranch, was closed Tuesday due to the shutdown, according to the Daily Bulletin

Campers in the area were given 48 hours to find other accommodations, according to the National Park Service.

Paramount Ranch was also impacted. Weddings set for the weekend may be canceled if the shutdown continues.
