City Breaks Ground for Canwood Street Improvements Project

The Canwood Street Improvements project is Phase I of a larger project– Agoura Road Widening–which is scheduled to start construction in 2014.

Local officials attended a groundbreaking ceremony at Fire Station 89 Thursday for the Canwood Street Improvements Project–the first phase of the Agoura Road Widening Project–funded by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

The project, which is scheduled to begin on April 29, will receive 1.1 million in Measure R funding for construction. No additional taxes will be levied to fund this project.

"The construction will replace the existing pavement, stabilize the surrounding slopes and widen the roadway between Fire Station 89 and the existing medical facilities," Metro's Lan Saadatrnejadi told those gathered.

Measure R will also fund two additional projects: the Roundabout Project at Canwood and Agoura Roads and improvements to the Palo Commado Interchange at the 101, Lan said.

“We are deeply appreciative of Metro support for this much needed project,” Denis Weber, Mayor of the City of Agoura Hills, said in a press release. “Without Metro and the help of Metro staff, we would have had a difficult time in moving the project forward.”

The larger Agoura Road Widening Project is scheduled to start construction in 2014 and will widen the existing road to four lanes, from Kanan Road to the City’s westerly city limits. The project will also provide landscaped medians and parkways, sidewalks and bike lanes.
