UPDATE: Fatal Traffic Collision Closes Kanan, Causes Small Fire

The name of the man who died has not been released. Kanan-Dume Road is closed from Cavalleri to Latigo Canyon roads until Thursday morning.

7:45 p.m. UPDATE: Kanan-Dume Road has reopened from PCH to Cavalleri Road, but will remain closed from Cavalleri to Latigo Canyon Road throughout the night due to downed power lines, a spokeswoman said. Southern California Edison workers are clearing the debris and putting up a new utility pole to replace the one destroyed in the afternoon collision.

Editor's Note: The fire that sparked due to the collision was limited to the truck. It was put out immediately by firefighters when they responded to the incident, according to the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station.

3:50 p.m. UPDATE: The body of the driver was found in the truck, according to the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station. Kanan will be closed from Pacific Coast Highway to Latigo Canyon Road until at least 9 p.m.

1:45 p.m. UPDATE: The all-volunteer Malibu Search and Rescue is looking for the driver of the dump truck. The smoke from the fire caused by the collision has risen high into the air. Witnesses said they could see it from Pacific Palisades.

12:45 p.m. UPDATE: According to the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station, a truck went out of control on Kanan, about a half-mile north of PCH. The truck struck another vehicle and a utility pole, causing a small fire. The truck driver cannot be found; nobody was injured in the other vehicle.

Kanan from PCH to Latigo is expected to be closed for "a few hours." PCH traffic is not affected.

A traffic accident has caused the closure of Kanan-Dume Road in both directions from Pacific Coast Highway to Latigo Canyon Road, according to a report from the city of Malibu at 11:52 a.m.. The accident has also caused a small fire.
