Heavy Smoke From Nearby Fire Briefly Disrupts Classes at Sumac Elementary

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A gazebo over a jacuzzi in Agoura Hills caught fire Tuesday morning, sending smoke into the neighborhood and briefly disrupting classes at Sumac Elementary School.

The fire was reported at 6:51 a.m. Tuesday in the 28000 block of Bardell Drive, near Sumac Park in Agoura Hills, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

No injuries were reported in the fire, but heavy smoke spilled into the neighborhood, including at Sumac Elementary School.

Sumac Elementary Principal Carol Martino told Agoura Hills Patch that students were brought into the middle building and fans were brought in. The district had prepared for students to be evacuated to Agoura High School, but when they arrived, the smoke had dissipated, Martino said.

"I have to say that I couldn't be prouder of our parents and our students," Martino said. "They were calm, people were smiling."

The fire is under investigation.
