All Eastbound Lanes Open Now After Fiery Crash at Lindero Canyon

The California Highway Patrol says all eastbound lanes of the Ventura (101) Freeway in Westlake Village have now been re-opened following a fiery big rig crash into the eastbound center divider at Lindero Canyon Road.

The driver of a big rig was under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after crashing his vehicle into the center divider of the eastbound 101, causing the truck to go up in flames and sending debris flying into a westbound vehicle, a California Highway Patrol officer said today.

The crash happened about 9 p.m. Sunday on the Ventura Freeway at Lindero Canyon Road, CHP Officer Monica Posada said.

"The big rig was eastbound with an empty trailer and prior to the collision was reported reckless," Posada said.

"The driver drifted to the right shoulder and traveled left across all lanes colliding into the center divider. The driver exited the big rig and it caught fire from the spilled diesel," she said.

The debris from the crash into the center divider flew onto the westbound side of the Ventura Freeway and "that debris struck a westbound vehicle," Posada said.

There were no injuries.

The CHP first closed both sides of the freeway but reopened  all but the center lane of the westbound side after the damaged car was cleared away, she said.

The eastbound lanes remained closed into the night while crews cleaned diesel fuel and debris and repaired the burned concrete divider, Posada said.
