Agoura Hills Burglar Sentenced to Six Years in State Prison

The suspect pleads guilty to residential burglary Wednesday.

Olaf Gustav Karlsen, a resident of Port Hueneme, pleaded guilty to one count of residential burglary Wednesday and was sentenced to six years in state prison, according to Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station Lt. John S. Benedict.

Deputies responded to a call of burglary on the 5500 block of Adeline Court at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Aug. 4.

"As the deputies drove up to the residence, they were flagged down by one of the victims," said Benedict. "The victim directed the deputies to an area near the residence of the crime, where a possible suspect was hiding."

The suspect was located and detained, Benedict said.

A subsequent field investigation revealed that Karlsen was confronted by the victim in his residence during the commission of the crime, according to Benedict. A struggle ensued in which both victims were assaulted. The suspect eventually was able to flee the residence.

One of the victims immediately called 9-1-1 and the other went outside the residence in order to direct law enforcement toward the last seen direction of the suspect, Benedict said.

"When deputies contacted the suspect, he gave them inconsistent statements as to what he was doing in the neighborhood," said Benedict. "The suspect was detained and later admitted his involvement in the burglary to detectives."

The victims received minor injuries, said Benedict. Karlsen was not charged with additional aggravated assault.
