Looking For Someone To Share His Golden Years

Rummy, an 11-year-old male Chihuahua was transferred from another shelter along with three other similar looking buddies when that shelter was being inundated with fire evacuations. They are jointly referred to as the Booze Brothers because, in addition to Rummy, they are named Whiskey, Tequila and JD. The last was probably a typo and he should have been called JB. Two of the others are age eleven and one is eight.

Rummy’s story is similar to the other three because they share many of the same characteristics. However, Rummy was placed in foster care for a short time to see what he would be like outside of the shelter environment.

He is a shy boy as are the other three, but some are more outgoing and all are incredibly sweet.

Here are some things you should know about Rummy:

·      He loves, loves, loves to sit in laps and actually watch TV.

·      He gets along beautifully with all dogs, large or small.

·      He seems to be housetrained. 

·      A nonprofit will pay for his neuter surgery and teeth cleaning upon adoption.

While in his foster home he never had an accident in the house – not even once! 

At first, his foster mom kept him in one of the bathrooms while she went to work because she was worried about leaving him alone with the other family dogs. He didn’t go potty in the bathroom; he waited until he was taken outside when she got home just like a good boy should. 

He slept in a nice warm, comfy bed in his foster mom’s bedroom every night. He didn’t go potty in the bedroom. He slept through the night and didn’t make a sound.

Even though he is housebroken he does have a little issue that has to be worked on …he is a marker. The first night he was at his foster home he lifted his leg on everything in the house. So his mom followed him around with a shake can (the volunteers can tell you more about that) and the can worked very well. The second night his mom noticed he was lifting his leg less. His foster mom also put a bellyband on him that really helped too. Ask the volunteers about it. Within a few days, he wasn’t lifting his leg anymore and he didn’t need to wear the bellyband.

Although this issue can sometimes be curbed with neutering, due to his age and habit he may need some behavior modification to keep him on track. But his foster mom showed that with some diligence and reminders he can change his ways.

He would love to sit in your lap and watch TV with you. He won’t even ask you to change the channel! He has the rest of his life ahead of him. Won’t you spend it with him?
