Blog: Fountainwood Needs Answers

Get answers; be at the meeting: Board Meeting 4111 Las Virgenes Road, Calabasas CA 91302 Time: 6PM

The newly formed "The Save Fountainwood Committee" has been hard at work obtaining as much information as possible regarding the decisions to expand Mariposa on the Sumac School site. As a result there are many questions that have arisen and need to be answered.

For example, the committee asked for proof of the approval that the school site is approved for 1000 students. The district's response, "Sumac Elementary School was built in 1975. The district does not have responsive documents for this project. Capacity is based on available classrooms."

In addition, it appears that the state gives the approval for the capacity, but a document showing the state approval is non-existent, too. It appears that the "approval" is something that probably happened when the school was built, which would be around 38 years ago.

Can the District actually think it can use a 38-year old plan to increase the student population without a negative impact? The school may have been approved for 1000 student then and it may have been fine at the time, because the number of students walking to school was substantially higher. The reality for 2013 is completely different.

Other important facts: Trailers pose health hazard when used for an extended period of time, newer traffic impact studies have been done for other school sites, if Mariposa followed the same student class ratios as LVUSD they wouldn't need additional trailers.

We definitely need answers.

If you're a Fountainwood neighbor, you need to be at the Board meeting tonight to show the District that we are a united front in our goal to keep our neighborhood from losing its beauty and peacefulness. We have financially supported the District for years and we are entitled to have a say in what happens to our neighborhood.

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
