New Year Brings New Family Activities

The kids are back in school, and you're recovering from the craziness of the holidays. Reconnect with your family with these fun activities.

Here are Calabasas Patch's Family Best Bets for the week:

1. Juggling at The Oaks

  • Where/When: The Oaks Mall, Thursday morning from 10-11 a.m.
  • Why go: If you've got some returns to make after all of your holiday fun, head over to the mall in time for the Kids' Club and make the little ones happy, too. They'll love the antics of David Cousin, professional juggler and entertainer. The Kids' Club meets on the bottom floor of the outdoor shops pavilion.

  • Ideal for: Families with younger children.


  • Where/When: , Friday at 9:30 a.m.
  • Why go: Head over to the library this Friday where you can meet other local parents and their children. The Music in Motion program at the library is a great way for your little ones to dance, sing and enjoy companionship.
  • Pricing: Free.
  • Ideal for: Families with infants and toddlers.


  • Where/When: Conifer Street and Medea Creek Lane in Oak Park, Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
  • Why go: Take the family and learn about the rich history and original settlers of our area during this docent-led hike. From the Chumash to the Jordans, this informative walk will educate its participants in a fun and physical way.
  • Pricing: Free.
  • Ideal for: Families with children of all ages.

4. Full Moon Hike

  • Where/When: Wildwood Park, Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
  • Why go: Watch the sun set and the moon rise overlooking the beauty that is the Conejo Open Space. This mild 2.5 mile walk is docent-led and is informative and fun. Pack some snacks and water and enjoy an evening in nature with the whole family.
  • Pricing: $6 per person, register by calling 805-495-2163.
  • Ideal for: Families with children of all ages.

5. Marionette Magic

  • Where/When: The Sagebrush Cantina, Tuesday starting at 4:30 p.m.
  • Why go: Call some friends and make a playdate at the Sagebrush. Adults can enjoy great food and drinks, while the kids get a free meal, My Gym activities, featured event Marionette Magic and a kids disco. It's a great way to unwind and dine and watch the kids have some fun.
  • Pricing: Free except for the price of food. Children eat free with the purchase of an adult meal.
  • Ideal for: Families with children aged 12 and under.
