Moms Talk is a weekly feature on Agoura Hills Patch, part of an initiative to reach out to moms and families. We invite you and your circle of friends to help build a community of support for mothers and their families right here in Agoura Hills.
Each week in Moms Talk, our council of smart moms will take your questions, and share stories and solutions. Moms, dads, grandparents and the diverse families who make up our community will have a new resource for questions about the thousands of issues that arise while raising children.
Today's Topic: How do you entertain your kids during the summer?
This week's question comes from columnist Charlene Ross:
I love the unstructured days of summer, but I also wonder what to do with my kids. When my kids were younger they could be entertained by endless hours at the park or beach. I was a stay-at-home mom with stay-at-home mom friends when my kids were toddlers, so entertaining them while chatting for hours with my girlfriends, was no problem.
Now my daughter is 11 and my son is 14. I will be working part-time from home this summer. My son will be in summer school for 23 days and my daughter has a few little camps and such that will fill about 11 days of her summer calendar.
I do plan on taking the kids to the beach as often as possible, but I have to keep in mind my son's homework load and my work schedule. I really can't afford to send my daughter to more camps.
What can I do with my daughter especially that will keep her entertained while I'm working without turning her into a TV or video game zombie?
