Blog Post: Umami, a Burger Beyond All Burgers

Umami Burger Thousand Oaks offers amazing burgers with an unique taste that will test your senses beyond belief!

Is Thousand Oaks ready to experience a taste beyond other tastes when it comes to biting into a true burger? Umami Burger Thousand Oaks held its grand opening Thursday that will truly test your senses! This new place definitely has a style of its own. It’s much bigger than most of its other locations, which is sure to be an asset, as it’s catering to the suburbia crowd. There is indoor and outdoor seating, a bar, and there’s even a place for kids to play mini-golf as they wait with their families to be seated.

The menu offers mostly burgers, but this location will soon be offering entrees as well. Before diving into one of the various amazing burgers, you must start off with a delicious salad. There are just a few salads to choose from, but my favorite is the Truffled Beet Salad. The beet salad is not just healthy, it has some great ingredients running through it. It contains truffled ricotta, smoked almonds, wild baby arugula, and a smooth truffle dressing. Not only do I enjoy it, but both my kids ended up eating it as well.

Ok, enough salad talk. Lets get down to the burgers. Each of these various burgers are truly unique. There is a turkey burger, a tuna burger, a variety of meat burgers, a veggie burger, and for the first time ever on an Umami Burger menu, a Kobe hot dog!

Our table sampled the Trattoria Burger, Ahi Tuna Burger and the Truffle Burger. The Trattoria Burger has spicy capocolla (a delicious, crisp prosciutto), crispy speck, arugula, asiago frico (an asiago crisp) and melted fontina cheese. This burger stands out the most from all the other meat burgers. So many intense flavors and there’s even pine nuts on it.

My husband loves the Ahi Tuna Burger. It has hand-chopped ahi tuna, crushed avocado, pickled ginger, sprouts and a rich wasabi tarter spread. This tuna burger is better, fresher and tastier than any tuna burger elsewhere. Both my youngest son and I ordered the Truffle burger. Not too many 10-year-olds would even touch a truffle burger, but this one will probably end up with a following. How can a burger go wrong with house made truffle cheese and a sweet truffle glaze?

If this is your first time at an Umami Burger, then I strongly suggest that you try their signature burger, the Umami Burger. It has a shiitake mushroom, caramelized onions, roasted tomato, a yummy Parmesan crisp and Umami’s house made ketchup.  Did I mention that Umami grinds all their meat before they put it into a burger? There meat is the freshest and of high quality than any burger restaurant I’ve dined at. I’ve tasted the burger without sauce and just by itself without any other ingredients, and the flavor is just so real, so incredibly fresh, and so delicious.

By the way, Umami offers a secret menu that will entice you even more. For example, their regular menu offers side dishes such as Thin Fries, Sweet Potato Fries, Smushed Potatoes, Tempura Onion Rings, and even House Pickles. The secret menu contains Cheesy Potato Tots with cheese just oozing out and scrumptious Truffle Fries that melt into your mouth and leave you wanting more and more.

Dessert is a must-have at Umami Burger. There are gourmet-style ding-dongs and ho-ho’s fresh from Cake Monkey that beat a Hostess any day. The best desserts, in my opinion, are the LA Creamery Ice-cream Sandwiches that are made with Straus Organic Dairy. Great flavors and the best dairy in California! There’s a sugar cookie ice-cream sandwich with caramel salt ice cream that is just “to-die-for.” Plus, this Umami location is also planning an ice cream bar featuring different flavors of Straus ice cream that you can have in a sundae.

I experienced my first Umami Burger at the Umami La Brea in Los Angeles and since then I’ve been hooked. My family and friends that are true foodies have become Umami followers. Umami has also opened Umamicatessen and 800 Degrees that are both first class additions. Umamicatessen offers not only Umami Burgers but also exceptional gourmet deli food, outstanding, sweet house made donuts and much more. 800 Degrees is truly the most unique gourmet pizza experience in Southern California. I believe, as Thousand Oaks is introduced to the Umami Burger, residents from this area will fall in love with everything Umami has to offer and their senses will be heightened.
