Library Hosts Victorian Holiday Tea Party
Families enjoy an elegant afternoon at the library's annual event.
Visitors to the on Saturday enjoyed tea and cakes at the 5th annual Victorian Holiday Tea Party.
Children's librarian Grace Bernard originated the festive event as a sit-down tea party with traditional English-style holiday treats. Party-goers are also invited to wear their holiday finest.
"We wanted to create a festive, stress-free environment for parents and their children,” said Bernard. “It's a wonderful ambiance in the library, where you can sip your favorite herbal tea while enjoying cookies and cupcakes."

In addition to the tea, served in flower painted teapots, activities included a reading of Tacky the Penguin by two middle school volunteers and an opportunity for children to make origami holiday boxes. Classical music was played in the background.
"It's a nice tradition," said Jenni Kathavale, who brought along sons Kiran and Kalya and friend Maisie Rein. “We came last year, and it's fun to dress up and for the kids to have tea."

The tea party also attracted a couple of young men who enjoyed a 'boys day out.' Mark Fergesen and his son Gabriel, 5, are seasoned tea party veterans. "We love the tea party every year,” said Fergesen. “It's one of our favorite things to do.”
