How to Keep Your Holiday Healthy and Active

Learn a couple of tips that can help you stay healthy during the holidays and keep those extra pounds form creeping up on you.

According to a recent Weight Watchers report, the average American gains around 7-10 pounds between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. By allowing ourselves to over-indulge and completely loose control over the holidays, there is a high risk that this will last well after the season.

To keep yourself from spiraling out of control, the key is moderation and portion control. Try to balance all the rich foods with a good amount of fresh fruits and vegetables. We tend to forget about our healthier eating habits during the holidays when all we need to do is simply manage our diets a little more carefully.

For example, if you have an outing coming up, eat healthy the days leading up to the event, and the day of the event, make sure to eat several low-fat snacks instead of starving yourself.

The other key component is exercise. Most of us become very busy during this time and find it hard to get our workouts in. During the holidays, don't have expectations that you will be able to maintain your regular regime. What is a must is to take some time to get a good calorie burn in.

Make your workouts more efficient and increase the intensity to burn more calories in a shorter amount of time. With the extra added calories the holidays bring, your workouts have to be worked into your schedule. All you have to do is work a little harder in a shorter amount of time, and you will be able to get a good calorie burn.

Following these few tips will allow you to maintain your health and keep you from packing on those extra holiday pounds.
