Blog Post: 10 Fitness Tips to Help You Stay Successful

There are a few things you can implement to help you be and stay successful in your journey towards a healthier lifestyle. Check out the top 10 things you can do to stay successful.

It is hard these days to stay fit and healthy with everything we have to do in a day. So how do people make exercise a way of life? Here are 10 things you can do to help keep yourself successful in maintaining a healthy, fit lifestyle.

1. Stay Consistent! I made an earlier post about how important consistency is to the success you will have. By staying consistent your choices become actions, your actions become habits and your habits will become lifestyle changes. To read more read "Consistency is the Key".

2. Follow an efficient and effective workout routine. Many people think cardio is the best way to go but it is important to implement some strength training into your routine. A great way to make your workouts much more efficient is to do intervals with HIIT series included in these circuits, read more on Intervals.

3. Set realistic goals for yourself. If you are just starting off work on a small circuit like a push-up, row and squat circuit one time through for as many reps as you can and walking on the treadmill for 15 minutes. Then work up to two sets and maybe 20 minutes at a moderate walk after a week or two. Do not think you are going to run a 5K the first time you get on the treadmill.

4. Create an environment you like to workout in. You can do this a couple ways, find a gym or park you really enjoy going to. Make sure you like the place you will be spending your time at. Another great way is to find a buddy you enjoy and start going to the gym with them and hold each other accountable.

5. Make sure your routine will work within your life. If you pick a gym that is too far from you, it may become unrealistic to make it consistently. Don't think you need a ton of machines and equipment to get a good workout it. All you need is floor space.

6. Pick activities you like to do. If you hate going to the gym and love to play basketball, find pick up games and go play an hour of basketball. If you love to hike, go on hikes. Do what makes you happy and activities you enjoy, you will stay more consistent with this type of mentality.

7. Listen to your body clock. Take a moment and think about when you are most energetic. If you are a morning person it is probably in your best interest to schedule your workouts in the morning. If you tend to workout better at night, schedule your workouts accordingly.

8. Talk with a professional about your goals and get a body assessment done. You may find after talking with a professional that you may need to focus on a few things you had not thought about such as flexibility or balance and agility before strength training.

9. Find a way to motivate yourself. For example watch a video or read an article or blog post about someone's story of success. Download new music or learn a new exercise that you want to work on. Fitness is a state of mind find someone who inspires you and read about their story. What motivates you?

10. Be patient with yourself. This will take time, so don't assume you will see results overnight. We all have our ups and downs so stick to it. Anything worth while takes time and it is important to think of your fitness goals as a journey with no true end point, it is a way of life.
