SIMI VALLEY, CA For The Troops will host its  Annual USO Tribute Show & Dinner at The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, 40 Presidential Drive in Simi Valley, CA on Saturday, February 9, 2013.   The era is World War II and the music is SWINGING!

Special appearances’ include Broadway, TV and Movie personality Connie Stevens.  Long known for her support of the USO, Ms. Stevens is the 2011 recipient of the Bob Hope Excellence in Entertainment Award and was a featured favorite on many of Bob Hope’s USO specials.  Ms. Stevens adds to her long list accomplishments the roles of business mogul and film director.  Ms. Stevens’ stunning and multi-talented daughters Joely Fisher (best known for her work with Ellen Degeneres) and Tricia Leigh Fisher, along with husband Byron Thames, will take the stage to provide their own renditions of swing era tunes.  Ms. Joely Fisher most recently starred in “Cupid” a Hallmark Channel original movie, while the Thames’ most recent endeavors include the TV reality show, “Beverly Hills Nannies.”

The brassy, “larger than life” Jo Anne Worley will continue the evening’s reverie with her own brand of comedic flair, and is sure to have all in attendance delighted!  Well known for her manic energy and zany stage presence, Ms. Worley has transcended her 1970’s Laugh-In TV stardom to become a crowd pleasing performer on Broadway, TV, movies and many theatre circuits on both the East and West Coasts.  She most recently appeared as Madame Morrible in the Los Angeles production of Wicked.   This actress, stage personality and songstress is also a talented songwriter and is the President of Actors and Others for Animals

The evening’s Master of Ceremonies is Gary Bryan of K-EARTH 101 FM radio.  A favorite radio personality in the southland, Gary hosts the “Morning Show” along with Lisa Stanley.  Mr. Bryan’s commitment and dedication to our soldiers is evident in the over $1 million raised to date in support of the Bob Hope Hollywood U.S.O. at LAX.

The music of the evening is provided by Angel City Big Band, an 18-piece swing band led by 2nd generation band leader, Tim Miller.  Local Simi Valley talent will provide a tribute to the Andrew Sisters with impressive 3 part harmonies.

However, the true stars of the evening will be the World War II veterans in attendance and the other military heroes, veterans and active duty military there.  We will be providing a special tribute to them during the evening.

The information we received from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's station was that a mentally illRead More patient was removed from the bus Sunday night. No one was harmed, officials said.

Either way it is wrong and uses the race card as a "despicable stunt"

Not a hate crime at all. Just a very stupid kid trying to manipulate the system so he could beRead More granted a athletic transfer. One of the kids on the "hit list" was the perp. Really despicable stunt.

It is unfortunate that this incident happened at our local schools. The crime is a result ofRead More ignorance and lack of education. All members of our community regardless of their race, creed, or religion should be respected. Perhaps our community needs to introspect and see why this occurred and how further events can be prevented.

Thanks for your great perspective on this issue. We should all unplug once in awhile.

I think for the most part, people are mentally drained. Few take the time to sit back relaxRead More anymore. Even when we do have a minute to ourselves, we're constantly bombarded with emails, text messages and status updates. If we unplugged ourselves from our devices, we might find the serenity we all so desperately need. Turn your phone off, take a hike. Find a big tree next to a creek and sit under the shade. Enjoy nature. Listen to the sound of the water, the birds and the breeze as it moves through the brush. When you get back to nature, if only for a short time, you'll leave with a clear mind and feel revitalized. You're right---technology was supposed to make our lives more simple. Instead, it fuels the attention deficit disorder as our brain becomes a hashtag with a constant barrage of (often useless) news and updates. Although I'm young, I'd give anything to go back to the days where calling someone often led to a wild goose chase of finding an available payphone and spare change to make the call.

If you can't talk politics with friends without being able to agree to disagree or even end upRead More losing them as friends then they were not the "friends" you thought they were anyway.

It's not about moving forward, it's about saving your breath! That's the whole problem; too muchRead More talk and not enough action! You gonna eat that fish or just hold it up in the air?
Dave April 7, 2013 at 07:29 am
then again, if you only speak with people who agree with you, how do you ever move forward? aren'tRead More you just "spinning your wheels" staying in the same spot never moving forward?
