Weekend Planner: End of Summer Concert, Star Wars at the Zoo and Vintage Glamour

Get your kicks in the last weeks of summer.

When/Where: Saturday, 9-11 a.m., Unique-Vintage, 2013 W. Magnolia Blvd., Burbank.

Why Go: Gabriela Hernandez of Besame Cosmetics and Unique Vintage are teaming up in style. Gabriela will teach basic techniques for the perfect '40s look. Get complimentary Besame lipsticks and learn methods so your lipstick lasts all day. It's an interactive lesson, so bring your base foundation, mirror and makeup brushes. Also, learn how to get Bettie Page bangs, barrel hair rolls and wear a snood. All class members will receive 15 percent off store purchases.

Star Wars Day at the LA Zoo

When/Where: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., L.A. Zoo, 5333 Zoo Dr., Los Angeles.

Why Go: Let the Los Angeles Zoo take you to a galaxy far, far away! For one day only, guests can meet R2-D2, members of the Rebel Alliance, storm troopers, dozens of Star Wars characters, and the master of the dark side himself, Darth Vader. Special Blu-ray screenings too!

Pricing: Zoo admission applies; GLAA members are free.

Movies on the Green

When: Saturday, 7 p.m., Warner Center Park, 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Woodland Hills.

Why Go: It's the last screening of the summer season, featuring Pirates of the Caribbean—the original blockbuster film with Johnny Depp.

Pricing: Free.

Captain Cardiac and the Coronaries

When/Where: Sunday, 6 p.m. Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center, 23400 Park Sorrento, Calabasas.

Why Go: It's a really groovin' rock 'n' roll in this final concert of the summer. Bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets. Light snacks available for purchase (cash only).

Concerts on the Green

When/Where: Sunday, 6 p.m., Warner Center Park, 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Woodland Hills.

Why Go: See Brass Transit, Toronto’s dynamic Chicago tribute band. The show includes all the hits from Chicago’s heyday, from 1969 to 1976. The band includes members associated with rock and soul greats including the Drifters, Sam & Dave, Aretha Franklin, Ben E. King, the Marvelettes, Frankie Valli, Mary Wilson, Martha Reeves, Little Anthony & the Imperials, Del Shannon and the Mamas & the Papas.

Pricing: Free.

Concerts on the Lawn

When/Where: Sunday, 5-6:30 p.m. Hosted in the backyard of a private home in Noho/Toluca Lake. Address given upon payment and RSVP.

Why Go: It's a rockin' house party featuring Grammy-nominated, world-class vocalist Perla Batalla. After touring the world with Leonard Cohen, performing Spanish-language classics in Spain and her own compositions in venues throughout the U.S. and Europe, Batalla returns to her jazz roots, breathing new life into standards from the great American songbook. Water and sodas will be available on site, and you're welcome to bring your own. No alcohol. Bring a lawn chair.
