Watch the First Meteor Shower of 2012

The Quadrantids meteor shower, visible in our skies late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, could produce as many as 70 shooting stars per hour.

Stargazers and astronomy fanatics will have an opportunity to view the first major meteor shower of 2012 late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning. This annual celestial event could produce up to 70 shooting stars per hour, according to spacedex.com.

Those living in the northern hemisphere have an opportunity to experience a much better view of the shower, located between the constellations of Bootes and Draco, said the website.

For the best viewing, the site recommends that you first find Polaris (a bright star, also known as the North Star) and observe in close proximity to that area. The site says that on average, and under clear skies, observers should see 40 to 70 meteors per hour.
