The Weekend Planner: A Little Shopping, Relaxing and Exercising

Get out and move a little this weekend.

When/Where: Friday, 10 a.m., Peter Strauss Ranch, 3000 Mulholland Highway, Agoura Hills.

Why Go: Work off your Thanksgiving meal with Let’s Move, a nationwide Initiative that promotes healthier lifestyles. Spend the morning at Peter Strauss Ranch for a ranger-led activity designed to get kids of all ages active in the great outdoors.

Where/Where: Friday, 6-9 p.m, Between the 3100 and 3800 blocks of Magnolia Boulevard, Burbank.

Why Go: Dozens of Magnolia Park boutiques roll out the red carpet and host store-to-store parties every last Friday of every month.  This is the perfect time to start holiday shopping. Enjoy the ultimate in shopping and fun with in-store events, cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, divine discounts, music and more. The area is known for its eclectic mix of emerging and distinctive shops and eateries.

Japanese Garden

When/Where: Monday through Thursday at 9:30, 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. (Reservations required.). Tours approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Open strolling Monday through Thursdays 12-4 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.  (last entry at 3:15 p.m), 6100 Woodley Ave., Van Nuys.

Why Go: Relax after a busy Thanksgiving activities with a stroll through this  authentic 6 1/2-acre Japanese Garden situated in the middle of the San Fernando Valley.

An American Christmas 

When/Where: Through Jan. 8, Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, 40 Presidential Dr., Simi Valley

Why Go: Kick off the holiday season at the Reagan Library with a winter wonderland featuring 24 trees decorated to celebrate the defining moments of America’s history from the Revolutionary era to today. Each tree reflects the life and times of American society and culture during each decade between 1700 and 2010. Through the use of lights, ornaments and decorations, each tree becomes its own piece of magnificent art. Also on display will be a collection of beautiful hand-crafted Menorahs that were given to President Reagan while in the White House.

Second Annual Santa Walk—Plan In Advance

When/Where: Dec. 4 (register now!), 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Westfield Topanga Mall, 6600 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Canoga Park.

Why Go: Sign up so you can raise money for this annual walk that benefits Variety, a nonprofit that raises funds to provide lifesaving support for disabled, abused, physically challenged, and underprivileged children in Southern California. The proceeds raised from this event will support programs in the areas of education, health care and mobility. For information, see varietysocal.org. The walk route ("lap") at the Westfield Topanga Mall is approximately a third of a mile. You can ask your sponsors to pledge a flat fee, or per lap, or per mile (approximately three laps to a mile).

Pricing: $25 for adults, $15 for children 12 and under. Registration to the event includes a five-piece Santa suit, yours to keep! Plus prizes, entertainment and a day full of fun. All proceeds raised will go to benefit special-needs children throughout Southern California.
