Storm Headed Our Way

A low-pressure system headed for the Southland Tuesday, promising rain and gusty winds Wednesday and threatening showers on Thursday, but little snow is expected below 7,000 feet.

The storm, which was around 450 miles west of Los Angeles this morning,
might also generate thunderstorms south of Point Conception.

Preliminary projections called for between a quarter-inch and three quarters of an inch of rain in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties and between a half-inch and an inch from southern Santa Barbara to Los Angeles County, according to a National Weather Service advisory. Higher amounts are possible across south-facing mountain slopes.

The rain is expected to taper off Wednesday night, with a slight chance of showers lingering through the day Thursday, the advisory said.

The snow level will start off at the 8,000-foot level Wednesday night but drop down to between 6,000 and 7,000 by Thursday morning, according to the
NWS.

"Very little snow accumulation is expected below 7,000 feet with this system,'' an advisory said.

Temperatures will not be greatly affected by the storm. Temperature highs, largely expected to be in the low 70s Tuesday, will dip by a few degrees Wednesday and Thursday before bouncing back on Friday.
