Space Shuttle Endeavour Arrival Time in Los Angeles Delayed

Social media and Patch's own comment sections are buzzing with the news of Space Shuttle Endeavour's fly over of Los Angeles and its eventual landing at Los Angeles International Airport Friday.

While the FAA did not release the exact schedule or route of the shuttle's low-altitude fly over of Los Angeles landmarks for security reasons, NASA did release an updated shuttle arrival time Thursday evening.

According to NASA, the arrival of Endeavour in Los Angeles air space has been pushed back one hour to 11:30 a.m. pacific daylight time.

NASA delayed the shuttle carrier's takeoff from Edwards Air Force Base to allow more time for fog to dissipate in San Francisco for the Endeavour's fly over of that city's famous landmarks.

Once the shuttle enters Los Angeles air space, it will fly over some of Southern California's most famous locations including the Hollywood sign, Malibu, Disneyland, Los Angeles City Hall and the Griffith Observatory.

However, for security reasons, the exact order and times those sites will be visited is only known by a few people, including California Science Center President Jeffrey Rudolph.

"I do have details about the flight plan, but it is pretty clear from NASA that if the flight plan gets out, they cancel the fly over for security concerns," Rudolph told Patch early Friday morning at LAX. "I have been pretty good about not telling anyone because I don't want them cancelled."

After its farewell tour around Los Angeles, NASA said it expects the shuttle to touch down on one of LAX's southern runways around 12:45 p.m.

For those not able to make it outside or to the airport to witness the historic flight, NASA will broadcast the event on NASA television starting at 8:00 a.m.
