Southern California Edison Planning Two Power Outages

The utility company is scheduling two power outages for Tuesday, August 16th and Tuesday, August 23rd.

Southern California Edison (SCE) has announced it is planning two scheduled outages for Tuesday, August 16th, and Tuesday, August 23rd.

According to information sent out to customers, the utility company will be "upgrading aging infrastructure" and performing maintenance from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Agoura area, east of Forest Cove La., that will require power to be temporarily disconnected.

Power may be off for the whole period or may be turned off more than once. In addition, the outage may not begin exactly at the stated start time nor end at 3 p.m., according to SCE.

SCE offers the following tips for safe-guarding your home:

  • Shut off or disconnect all sensitive electronics, i.e. computers and fax machines, before the outage begins.
  • Install surge protectors, which can prevent a sudden surge of electricity.
  • Check garage door openers and security gates for how to operate them manually.
  • Minimize opening of refrigerator and freezer doors to maintain temperatures.
  • Notify security companies that monitor your home.

SCE advises business customers who do not have a backup power supply to rent a portable one, if needed.
