Reyes Adobe Days Last Call for Parade Entries

Celebrate the Agoura's 30th anniversary with entries that tie into the civic birthday theme.

 

The City of Agoura Hills invites organizations, groups, businesses and individuals to join the 8th Annual Reyes Adobe Days parade on Saturday, October 6, as part of the Reyes Adobe Days weekend festival.

In celebration of the city's 30th anniversary, parade entries are encouraged to tie into the civic birthday theme. They may be floats, classic cars or entertainment acts and awards will be presented to the best entries.

Celebrity Grand Marshal for the 2012 parade is recording artist and actress Hayley Kiyoko, best known for her role in Disney Channel’s Lemonade Mouth. Her other credits include a recurring role on Disney Channel's Wizards of Waverly Place, as well as starring as Velma in the Cartoon Network movies Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins and Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster.

“I grew up going to Reyes Adobe Days. It's always an exciting celebration of our history, our present and our future. I'm honored to be a part of this wonderful community. It's going to be great fun for everyone,” said Kiyoko.

The approximate mile-long procession begins at 10 a.m., starting at (6900 block of Reyes Adobe Road) and leads to the , kicking off the Day at the Adobe, a free weekend festival with rancho themed activities, pony rides, petting zoo, historical demonstrations, live music, Art at the Adobe, a Taste of 91301, beer garden, food vendors and more.

A city birthday celebration with free cupcakes will follow the parade awards presentation at the start of the festival at 11 a.m. Festival hours are 11 am to 4 pm, Saturday and Sunday.

The deadline for joining the Reyes Adobe Days Parade is Friday, September 21, at 4 p.m. Applications containing all entry requirements are online at www.reyesadobedays.org -- parade link or at the City of Agoura Hills Recreation Center, 30610 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Agoura Hills, CA 91301.  For more information, call 818-597-7361.

It is unfortunate that this incident happened at our local schools. The crime is a result ofRead More ignorance and lack of education. All members of our community regardless of their race, creed, or religion should be respected. Perhaps our community needs to introspect and see why this occurred and how further events can be prevented.

I think for the most part, people are mentally drained. Few take the time to sit back relaxRead More anymore. Even when we do have a minute to ourselves, we're constantly bombarded with emails, text messages and status updates. If we unplugged ourselves from our devices, we might find the serenity we all so desperately need. Turn your phone off, take a hike. Find a big tree next to a creek and sit under the shade. Enjoy nature. Listen to the sound of the water, the birds and the breeze as it moves through the brush. When you get back to nature, if only for a short time, you'll leave with a clear mind and feel revitalized. You're right---technology was supposed to make our lives more simple. Instead, it fuels the attention deficit disorder as our brain becomes a hashtag with a constant barrage of (often useless) news and updates. Although I'm young, I'd give anything to go back to the days where calling someone often led to a wild goose chase of finding an available payphone and spare change to make the call.
