Rescued Horses Available For Adoption

The horses, who were picked up malnourished from a property in Acton, include Quarter Horses, Thoroughbred, Warmbloods, Paso Finos and ponies.

Horses that were rescued by the County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control are now available for adoption at the Agoura Hills Animal Shelter.

The owner, whose name has not been disclosed, surrendered 22 malnourished horses from a property in Acton last October, according to Helen Hartel, shelter volunteer and Patch columnist.

"There wasn't even any hay on the property," Hartel said.

Many of the dog and cat volunteers devoted extra time to the horses "by shoveling you-know-what each morning along with whatever it takes to maintain horses," Hartel said. "Husbands and wives also helped out along with experienced community members."

Though some have already been adopted, there are still nine available, which include ponies, Quarter Horses, Warmbloods, Thoroughbreds and Paso Finos. Many of these horses are broke in for English and Western riding.
