Red Flag Warning Issued for Mountain Areas

The warning is in effect until 11 p.m.

The following is an edited notice that was issued Friday afternoon by the Los Angeles County Fire Department:

The Los Angeles County Fire Department has just received notification from the National Weather Service that a "Red Flag Warning" is now in effect until 11 p.m. due to expected dry lightning. Increased instability with widely scattered thunderstorm activity is expected to develop in the Antelope Valley and the mountains of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.

Any thunderstorms that develop will likely bring dry lightning strikes and gusty winds. These conditions along with fuel moister approaching critical levels warrants this Red Flag Warning. Consequently, citizens in brush areas should take appropriate precautions.
