Southern California Edison Offers Additional Information on Possible Power Outages for Agoura Hills

Routine repair work this week may temporarily interrupt service in certain areas.

Update: Agoura Hills Patch received several emails from readers who are concerned about power outages during the heatwave. We received the following note from Vanessa McGrady, a SCE spokesperson:

SCE does not have a company policy regarding weather-related events and outage rescheduling. We leave the decision-making to cancel or continue with a planned outage to local district management because:

1) they know their local customers' needs the best
2) they have detailed knowledge of the priority and criticality of the planned work
3) they have the knowledge of the scheduling details and extent of the planned outage.

A blanket weather/outage rescheduling policy statement would not provide the flexibility required to operate the electric system in a safe, reliable and cost efficient manner. However, during periods of extreme weather, management conversations do occur that discuss issues of planned outages and their affect on our customers. SCE always attempts to balance the needs/impacts of outages on our customers with system reliability, cost and especially safety.

Customers can look here for outage information: www.sce.com/outage (or from their mobile device, m.sce.com/outage) or call (888) 759-6056

More about planned outages:

Customers are notified at least three days in advance of a planned outage via a brightly colored postcard. SCE takes additional steps to contact medically sensitive customers who rely on electric devices to maintain their health.

As we upgrade our infrastructure with smarter technologies and perform important maintenance, sometimes it’s necessary to turn off the power. This is an important safety measure that protects our crews. We are also on a schedule to maintain equipment. If we fail to properly maintain our system, we could be out of compliance with California Public Utilities Commission requirements and possibly lead to unsafe situations.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Southern California Edison will be performing maintenance on the electrical system in Agoura Hills from Monday, August 13 through Saturday, August 18. In order to perform this work safely, SCE must temporarily interrupt electric service and turn off power. This outage will allow SCE to upgrade aging infrastructure, make needed improvements and complete other repairs.

SCE realizes this temporary service interruption may cause some inconvenience, and appreciates your understanding as they to increase system reliability for the future.

Please note that the power may be off for the whole period or may be turned off more than once. This planned outage may not begin exactly at the stated start time, and some conditions may cause this planned outage to be postponed.

The times noted are SCE's best estimate and circumstances may affect both the start time and the completion time indicated above. For more information and current status, please call 1-888-759-6056 or visit www.sce.com/outage.

The schedule is as follows:

  • Monday, August 13:– 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Kanan Road East Side, 365’ North of Hillrise Drive

The information we received from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's station was that a mentally illRead More patient was removed from the bus Sunday night. No one was harmed, officials said.

John, it was reported on KTLA. You can find it at KTLA.com and do a search of "Agoura HighRead More graffiti."

Thanks for your great perspective on this issue. We should all unplug once in awhile.

I think for the most part, people are mentally drained. Few take the time to sit back relaxRead More anymore. Even when we do have a minute to ourselves, we're constantly bombarded with emails, text messages and status updates. If we unplugged ourselves from our devices, we might find the serenity we all so desperately need. Turn your phone off, take a hike. Find a big tree next to a creek and sit under the shade. Enjoy nature. Listen to the sound of the water, the birds and the breeze as it moves through the brush. When you get back to nature, if only for a short time, you'll leave with a clear mind and feel revitalized. You're right---technology was supposed to make our lives more simple. Instead, it fuels the attention deficit disorder as our brain becomes a hashtag with a constant barrage of (often useless) news and updates. Although I'm young, I'd give anything to go back to the days where calling someone often led to a wild goose chase of finding an available payphone and spare change to make the call.

If you can't talk politics with friends without being able to agree to disagree or even end upRead More losing them as friends then they were not the "friends" you thought they were anyway.

It's not about moving forward, it's about saving your breath! That's the whole problem; too muchRead More talk and not enough action! You gonna eat that fish or just hold it up in the air?
Dave April 7, 2013 at 07:29 am
then again, if you only speak with people who agree with you, how do you ever move forward? aren'tRead More you just "spinning your wheels" staying in the same spot never moving forward?
