Oct. 13: Open Studio Tour; Pie Festival

Tour local artists' homes, head to a pie festival in Malibu and hike to Inspiration Point.

3. Hike to Inspiration Point

Join a ranger at King Gillette Ranch on a moderate, one-mile roundtrip hike for a view of the Las Virgenes Valley. Bring water, sunscreen and wear appropriate clothing. Meet at the fountain at 10 a.m.

4. 23rd Annual Malibu Pie Festival

In pursuit of the blue ribbon, pie bakers enter their best fare in multiple categories judged by Malibu civic and business leaders, and celebrities.  Children can enjoy themselves on the Nursery School playground filled with fun activities like a drumming circle, mural painting, gunny sack races and facepainting. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Courtyard of the Malibu United Methodist Church, 30128 Morning View Drive, Malibu, CA.

5. Story time With Local Authors/Educators at Barnes and Noble

Author Sarah Lynn Scheerger of the Ventura County Office of Education will read and sign her books 1-2-3 Va-Va-Vroom! and Tip Tap Pop at the event. She will be joined by Sumac Elementary teacher Cindy Simmons and Mariposa Elementary School of Global Education teacher Nanci Powers, who will read and sign their new book Bad Bill and the Marshmallows. And rounding out the morning will be EARTHS Magnet School librarian Judeanne Wiley, reading her eBooks The Dandy Candy Apple and The Earth Friendly Mermaid. The event starts at 10:30 a.m. at the Barnes and Noble in Westlake.
