When out and about with the kids it's tempting to steer straight into the drive-thru for a quick meal that doesn’t cost a ton of money.

But saving money doesn’t mean one has to sacrifice quality and to prove it, we’ve scoured the area to find the best lunch specials that will please the pocket book and the palette.

 1. RED HAT RESTAURANT, Woodland Hills

• Deal: Specials on authentic Persian cuisine at this restaurant, named after a love poem, consist of a variety of a la carte sandwiches for $3.99, also available in combos for $5.99. Sandwich options include chicken or beef kabob, falafel, gyro, turkey breast or potato and chicken. Burgers are $2.49, cheeseburgers are $2.99 and the chef’s special steak and cheese is $5.99.

2. MADDY’S MARKET, Calabasas

• Deal: The organic market’s gourmet pizzas are available gluten-free and come in flavors like Thai BBQ chicken for $2 a slice. Ten-inch personal pan pizzas are $5 and larges range from $10.99 to $13.99. The deli’s hot plate combo is $7.99 and the substantial salad bar priced at $6.99 per pound has selections such as the super grain quinoa. Mention Calabasas Patch to receive a 20 percent discount on purchases storewide.

 3. INDIA SWEETS & SPICES, Canoga Park

• Deal: Dishes at this market/deli change daily, but are always vegetarian. The three lunch specials all include cooked lentils, raita, basmati rice and chapati bread and start at $4.49 for one entree; $5.49 to add samosa and pakora, and $6.49 for everything plus dessert.  4. WOLF CREEK RESTAURANT & BREWING CO., Calabasas

• Deal: An extensive menu for kids 12 and under consists of items like chicken tenders, quesadillas, beef or chicken burgers, pizza, penne pasta, fish and chips or even a flat-iron steak, plus more, including a drink and side for $4.95 or $5.95. Lunch combos for adults are $7.75 and are available until 4:30 p.m. Their large outdoor patio is perfect for family dining.

5. , Calabasas

• Deal: Choose two entrees from a changing menu and get rice and a salad for $7. The portions are large enough to split, depending on appetites.
• Good through: Weekdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 6. SUSHI PLANET, Woodland Hills, Westlake Village

• Deal: Lunch specials are served with miso soup and salad and are $6.95 for one hand roll, $8.95 for two and $10.95 for three. Other lunch specials are offered daily as well as happy hour with half-off beer and sake on Mondays from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
