Loba is a True Survivor

Once on the brink of death, this 2-year-old Shepherd/Husky mix is now awaiting adoption.

Loba is quite the miracle dog. She came to the Agoura shelter as a stray, but no one knew she was a very sick dog. Thankfully, under the watchful eyes of the volunteers and the staff, it was discovered that something wasn't right.

She was rushed to a private veterinarian where she was diagnosed as having a belly abscess that had turned septic. She was near death and needed immediate emergency surgery. After a two hour surgery and four blood transfusions, she was stable but in critical condition. She remained at the hospital for five days.

Malibu Pet Companions, a non-profit group that supports the pets at the Agoura Shelter, funded all of this. See last week’s Pet of the Week column “Skittles Needs Your Support” for details.

Here are some things you should know about Loba:

  • She is a 2-year-old German Shepherd/Husky mix.
  • She is non-reactive to other dogs.
  • She is good on leash.
  • She is very gentle when taking treats.
  • She likes to be near people and enjoys being scratched behind the ears.
  • She is very easy going.
  • It doesn't seem as though she has not had any training.
  • She is apprehensive when facing new situations, but given a little time and gentle coaxing she overcomes her fear.
  • It appears she never had the opportunity to live inside a home.

Loba is now back at the shelter and is ready for adoption. While her energy level isn’t yet at 100 percent, she is eager to go for walks and lope around the play yard.

This girl has gone through so much during her short life. It’s time she experience a loving home with a caring family that will allow her to play indoors and out. Come and meet her today.

To choose Loba, request ID A4535261. The Agoura Shelter is at 29525 Agoura Road, Agoura Hills. Occasionally pets have already been adopted. To check availability, call 818-991-0071 or visit the website.

The information we received from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's station was that a mentally illRead More patient was removed from the bus Sunday night. No one was harmed, officials said.

John, it was reported on KTLA. You can find it at KTLA.com and do a search of "Agoura HighRead More graffiti."

Bob, who reported it was one of the kids on the list?

Either way it is wrong and uses the race card as a "despicable stunt"

Thanks for your great perspective on this issue. We should all unplug once in awhile.

I think for the most part, people are mentally drained. Few take the time to sit back relaxRead More anymore. Even when we do have a minute to ourselves, we're constantly bombarded with emails, text messages and status updates. If we unplugged ourselves from our devices, we might find the serenity we all so desperately need. Turn your phone off, take a hike. Find a big tree next to a creek and sit under the shade. Enjoy nature. Listen to the sound of the water, the birds and the breeze as it moves through the brush. When you get back to nature, if only for a short time, you'll leave with a clear mind and feel revitalized. You're right---technology was supposed to make our lives more simple. Instead, it fuels the attention deficit disorder as our brain becomes a hashtag with a constant barrage of (often useless) news and updates. Although I'm young, I'd give anything to go back to the days where calling someone often led to a wild goose chase of finding an available payphone and spare change to make the call.

If you can't talk politics with friends without being able to agree to disagree or even end upRead More losing them as friends then they were not the "friends" you thought they were anyway.

It's not about moving forward, it's about saving your breath! That's the whole problem; too muchRead More talk and not enough action! You gonna eat that fish or just hold it up in the air?

then again, if you only speak with people who agree with you, how do you ever move forward? aren'tRead More you just "spinning your wheels" staying in the same spot never moving forward?
