Dec. 2: Winter Celebration; 'A Tigglemeister Christmas'

2. Art & Gift Gallery at the Adobe

The gallery store, located in the historic barn at the Reyes Adobe Historical Site, will feature many handmade crafts and gifts–jewelry, scarves, aprons, bags, cards, candles, decorative items, books and more. Also on display will be prints and paintings by 20 local artists, available for purchase. The store will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 3. A Tigglemeister Christmas

Panic! Productions begins its second season with the world premiere of a new holiday musical for the whole family. A Tigglemeister Christmas will run December 1 through 16, at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts (403 W Hillcrest Dr, Thousand Oaks). Tickets are $10 and are available at www.hillcrestarts.com, by calling 805-381-1246 or by visiting the box office.

4. Winter Celebration at the Leonis Adobe/Calabasas

The Leonis Adobe Museum is holding a Winter Celebration from 2-5 p.m. featuring crafts, Santa, a 19th century beadwork exhibit, refreshments, music, games, animal feeding and more. The adobe is located at 23537 Calabasas Road. Members are free. Non-members are $4 for adults, $2 for kids 12 and under. For more information go to www.leonisadobemuseum.org or call 818-222-6511.

5. Getting the Most Out of Ancestry.com

The Jewish Genealogical Society of the Conejo Valley and Ventura County (JGSCV) will hold a general meeting, co–sponsored with Temple Adat Elohim, from 1:30-3:30 p.m at Temple Adat Elohim, 2420 E. Hillcrest Drive in Thousand Oaks. The Program is 'Getting The Most Out of Ancestry.com.'

It is unfortunate that this incident happened at our local schools. The crime is a result ofRead More ignorance and lack of education. All members of our community regardless of their race, creed, or religion should be respected. Perhaps our community needs to introspect and see why this occurred and how further events can be prevented.

I think for the most part, people are mentally drained. Few take the time to sit back relaxRead More anymore. Even when we do have a minute to ourselves, we're constantly bombarded with emails, text messages and status updates. If we unplugged ourselves from our devices, we might find the serenity we all so desperately need. Turn your phone off, take a hike. Find a big tree next to a creek and sit under the shade. Enjoy nature. Listen to the sound of the water, the birds and the breeze as it moves through the brush. When you get back to nature, if only for a short time, you'll leave with a clear mind and feel revitalized. You're right---technology was supposed to make our lives more simple. Instead, it fuels the attention deficit disorder as our brain becomes a hashtag with a constant barrage of (often useless) news and updates. Although I'm young, I'd give anything to go back to the days where calling someone often led to a wild goose chase of finding an available payphone and spare change to make the call.
